The Serpentine Bench: A World Record View
The crowning feature of Park Güell's main terrace is the Banc de Trencadís, or the Serpentine Bench. At 110 meters long, it holds the record for the longest bench in the world. Designed by Gaudí's collaborator Josep Maria Jujol, its ergonomic shape was reputedly modelled by having a workman sit in wet plaster. The entire surface is covered in 'trencadís'—a mosaic of broken ceramic tiles, a signature of Catalan Modernisme.
